Asuene raises US $5.3 million in Series C 2nd close, with investment and business alliance from Nippon Life Insurance Company and JERA

 

Asuene Inc. has successfully raised approximately US $5.3 million in the 2nd close of its Series C round through a third-party allocation of shares with investors including Japan Green Investment Corp. for Carbon Neutrality (JICN), Nippon Life Insurance Company (via Nippon Life Strategic Fund I), JERA, Pavilion Capital, and individual investor Hidetaka Kojima (Head of M&A, Strategic Planning and Global Business Development at SHIFT Inc. and Director of the Board at SHIFT Growth Capital Inc.). This round brings the total Series C funding to US $33 million, with aggregate fundraising reaching US $67 million.

Business Progress and Achievements

Discover pocket tales of Filipino romance in latest anthology series Sari-Sari Stories

   

Bookshelf PH launches the first Sari-Sari Stories collection, the Romance Edition at SM Aura Book Nook on August 14, 2024 at 4PM.

Comprehensive Guide and Capacity Building Program Announced to Combat Marine Plastic Pollution in ASEAN Cities

  

The Capacity Building Programme for Reducing Recycling-Related Marine Plastic Pollution in ASEAN Cities (CaRMPAC Project) will be officially launched on 16 August 2024 in Vientiane, Lao PDR. This significant regional initiative is designed to address the pressing issue of marine plastic pollution through targeted capacity building and implementation strategies. In conjunction with the launch, the outcomes of Phase 1 of the project have been published, including the Situation Assessment Reports and Technical Guidelines for six key ASEAN cities, which aimed at preventing plastic and resin pellet leakage from recycling facilities.

Phase 1 of the CaRMPAC Project focused on a comprehensive situation assessment and the development of technical guidelines, which aimed at preventing plastic and resin pellet leakage from recycling facilities. This phase covered six key ASEAN cities: Pattaya, Nonthaburi, Hanoi, Iloilo, Manila, and Vientiane. The situation assessment revealed critical factors contributing to plastic leakage. That resulted in the creation of technical guidelines and manuals tailored to each city to improve recycling process and practices to prevent plastic leakage across both formal and informal sectors. The outcomes of Phase 1, including the Situation Assessment Reports and Technical Guidelines, have been published and are available for free access here.

Launching Phase 2: Capacity Building Programme

Following the successful completion of Phase 1, Phase 2 of the CaRMPAC Project aims to expand its reach to additional cities and countries, including Phnom Penh, Ho Chi Minh City, Bandung, Davao City, and others. Over the next 24 months, this phase will address the capacity gaps identified in Phase 1, with a particular focus on informal plastic recyclers and relevant city government regulators. The objective is to promote responsible recycling practices and sustainable plastic management through enhanced training, increased awareness, and improved regulatory support.

The CaRMPAC Project is being implemented by the Asian Institute of Technology’s Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific, with support from the Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris of ERIA and the ASEAN Secretariat.

Global pop sensation Henry Moodie captivates audiences across Southeast Asia

 Sony Music Southeast Asia is thrilled to announce the tremendous success of Henry Moodie’s recent promotional tour across Southeast Asia. Kitchie Nadal’s 20th Anniversary Concert

The Kid LAROI teams up with Jungkook of BTS and Central Cee for new single “Too Much”


 After a series of internet-breaking teasers, The Kid LAROI unveils his new single and music video “TOO MUCH” with Jung Kook and Central Cee, out today via Columbia Records and Sony Music Entertainment. Uniting these stars for the very first time, this unprecedented powerhouse collaboration heralds the arrival of The Kid LAROI’s full-length album, THE FIRST TIME, dropping in November.

AXEAN Festival 2023 unveils final lineup, featuring multi-genre acts from Taiwan

AXEAN Festival, Southeast Asia’s first collaborative intraregional music showcase festival, announces the final roster of its artist slate from Taiwan. Supported by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), the third batch of performers includes four-piece instrumental act CICADA, Taiwanese-British act NIO, and an all-star performance featuring collaborations by jazz-funk band Robot Swing, Canadian-Taiwanese rapper LEO37, and new music darling Star Wu.

" We’re very excited to have Taiwan representation in AXEAN Festival,” shares co-founder David Siow. “We pride ourselves in presenting acts that are great live, and these 3 bands are no exception. With 50 bands over 4 stages, beers from ASEAN countries, and an art exhibition, AXEAN Festival is guaranteed to be a heck of a party."

Established in 2019 by the Ministry of Culture, TAICCA supports the production, distribution, development, and overseas expansion of audiovisual content, digital content, music, comic, performing art, and more.

NIO is currently the most exciting pop sensation in Taiwan, having recently won the popular songwriting reality show Music Maker (音乐主理人), solidifying his spot as one of the best young singer-songwriters in Taiwan at the moment. NIO released his four-track EP ANTI FOG LENSES earlier in February this year, and has recently returned with new singles 'Sometimes' and 'When You Gonna (Get Your Shit Together)'.

Cicada is a four piece instrumental band formed in 2009, and named after the insect that people often hear around themselves in nature and is instantly recognisable by its sound. The band was nominated for the “Best Instrumental Album Production” award at the 2020 Golden Melody Awards for their album Hiking In The Mist, as well as the “Best Instrumentalist” award at the 2023 Golden Indie Music Awards for their latest album Seeking the Sources of Streams. The band was also involved in creating the soundtrack to the critically acclaimed 2022 Japanese thriller film A Man, which premiered at the 79th Venice Film Festival. For their work on the film, Cicada was nominated for the “Best Music” award at the 46th Japan Academy Film Prize.

Robot Swing is a jazz funk band that is symbolic of the ever-evolving indie music sound in Taiwan. Incorporating elements of R&B, soul, funk, and jazz in their music, the groovy band has collaborated with musicians from all backgrounds, including pop sensation Hung Peiyu, Tamil rapper SVDP and saxophonist Hsieh Minyen. They were recognized with a nomination for the “Best Rhythm & Blues Song” at the 2021 Golden Indie Music Awards. Their debut album System Booting… was also nominated for the “Best Band” award at the 2023 Golden Melody Awards, and won the “Best New Artist” award at Singapore’s very own Freshmusic Awards.

Robot Swing will be joined by frequent collaborator and producer LEO37, a Canadian-Taiwanese veteran hip-hop musician and rapper who is instrumental in the advancements made by the Taiwanese indie hip-hop scene over the past decade. LEO37 has been involved in some of the biggest hip-hop events in Taiwan’s history, including the first-ever appearance of Wu-Tang Clan in Taiwan, as well as some of the largest and highest grossing hip hop shows in Taiwan, taking the Taiwanese hip hop talents onto a global stage.

AXEAN Festival will be taking place in Singapore on 28 and 29 October this year. Alongside live music performances by renowned and up-and-coming acts from 10 different countries across Southeast Asia and the rest of the world, the festival is partnering with a wide variety of craft beer, food, and art vendors from Southeast Asia to give festival-goers a fully immersive experience, fostering a spirit of community and collaboration. This year’s edition of the festival places extra emphasis on Asia’s indelible food culture with exclusive forward-thinking dishes inspired by flavours from across the region and a diverse range of beverages via the festival’s curated Beer Village. The festival is now operating on a pay-cos-you-want system with a 250% tax deduction for donations over SGD 100 through its charity partner FOUNDATION MUSIC, in the hopes of making the festival accessible to as many people as possible. Donations from the public allow the independent festival to continue its annual efforts to elevate the best music in the ASEAN region, accelerating the artists' careers and launching them on a global stage. 


AXEAN Festival is teaming up with Beer Village, hosting a range of craft beer and food vendors from Singapore and across the region to satisfy the appetites of festival-goers and artists alike, merging international tastes with local twists. Craft beer aficionados and newcomers can unite in a vibrant celebration of the finest brews from across Southeast Asia in this immersive experience that brings together the best of craft beer, gastronomy, and entertainment.

Art Showcase


Presented by GOFY, an independent Singapore-grown creative community that celebrates artists from the Southeast Asian region, the arts showcase at AXEAN Festival will feature a curation of works from their exhibition For Art’s Sake 2023 which brings art into everyday commercial spaces, melding the discovery of art with people’s daily rituals.

Audiences will enjoy the fusion of arts and music through a unique showcase that celebrates the talent of regional urban artists. The artworks will capture the spirit of Southeast Asia’s youth, with narratives reflecting the pulse of the present moment.

AEGIS celebrates career-spanning legacy with a Christmas concert!


The year-end event redefines the concert-going experience with “select” orchestral arrangements and special guests. Filipino music icon AEGIS is set to stage a concert that aims to capture the spirit of the holiday season.

Dubbed AEGIS: The Christmas Bonus Concert, the year-end celebration marks the first time that the OPM stars will be serenading their fans with Christmas-themed songs as well as their career-spanning Greatest Hits set.

The concert will take place on December 20, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. onwards, at the Theatre At Solaire in Paranaque City, Metro Manila. Backed by an orchestra and rendered with intricate arrangements that elevate the experience of listening to AEGIS live, the concert finds the Pinoy vocal powerhouse at the top of their game, celebrating with fellow Filipino people in expressing gratitude for year-long blessings and love, and for the opportunity to spend more time with family during the holiday breaks.

“It’s hard to imagine the Christmas season without music that signifies humanity and love,”

AEGIS shares in a press statement. “We feel that this concert is a great way to uplift our spirits during trying times. We want this event to be as festive and colorful as possible, but at the same time, we want to perform with the goal of spreading happiness and positivity among those who are yearning for something to make them feel at home.”
